Veg Momos, a steamed or fried dumpling stuffed with mixed vegetables, is a delicious snack food enjoyed in Tibet region. From last few years, Momos are getting very popular in other parts of India and you can easily prepare them at home by either steaming or deep frying. Veg-momos has ingredients like finely chopped vegetable like carrot, cabbage, beans and capsicum mixed with few spices which create a magic and gives the snack a tasty flavor. Vegetable Momos is Famous for: Veg-momos is an all season snack and is available everywhere.
Instructions to make Veg Momos:
- To make the stuffing, heat the oil in a pan on medium heat-high heat. Once hot add ginger and garlic. Saute for 30 seconds. Make sure not to burn them. It should be crunchy.
- Now add chopped veggies (onion, corn,cabbage, carrot, capsicum). Mix and continue cooking with stirring constantly for 3-4 minutes. Add salt, sugar and pepper.
- Add soya sauce. Mix and cook for 2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the vegetables. Now add spring onion greens and mix.Stir well to combine and turn off the stove. Let the mixture cool down.
- Meantime knead the dough for outer covering. Mix all purpose flour, 1tsp oil and salt in a bowl. Add little water at a time and knead into smooth yet firm dough. Cover it and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Now divide the dough into equal portions and make smooth balls. Take the balls and roll into circles. Keep the edges thinner compared to center. Take 3 circles.Then put the circles like 1st picture. Keep little veggie stuffing in the middle length wise. Then fold like 2nd picture and press the edges. Then roll from one side to give rose shape like 3rd picture.
- Now to steam cook them, add glassful of water in a steamer pan and bring it to a simmer on medium heat. Grease the steamer tray with oil and arrange the shaped momos on it.
- Steam them for 6-8 minutes. How to check: once cooked, it becomes transparent, shiny and by touch it won’t feel sticky. DO NOT OVERCOOK them otherwise it becomes chewy. Serve hot.
